My fascination for material and form has been with me since completing my training as a carpenter.
The challenge that provides me with the greatest stimulation each and every time is the transformation of carefully selected materials into characteristic items of furniture, undisguised and in abandonment of the superfluous by working on them as expressively and aesthetically as possible. The materials are groomed for a long life ahead by solid and technically precise workmanship. Just like us, they are allowed to grow old, with the marks which we leave behind on them telling their own, very personal story.
My furniture represents an expression of time, modern but not fashionable. This differentiation is important for me. I turn carefully thought-out proportions and clear handcrafted details into items of furniture with a striking and straightforward visual appearance.
I pay the utmost attention not only to the development but also to the production of my furniture. In light of this, I believe that modern design also implies modern manufacturing according to what is understood as contemporary methods: avoiding long and unnecessary transportation, no production at the expense of others and with the smallest burden possible on our environment.
My furniture is all made in Germany, to be precise in Berlin. All natural materials are certified according to their origin. I mainly use timber from Germany or neighbouring European countries and dispense with exotic types of wood that don’t grow here. I am in constant personal contact with my handpicked craftsmen and women, with whom I share a passion for good design.
